One extreme to the other

Emotions are flying high at this point and between one day or hour and the next I can go from one extreme to the other! On Friday I was thinking about reading on ways to speed up labor and by that night I became terrified and decided I can wait 4+ weeks and be fine! This is scary! In the 1st and 2nd trimesters I was mainly terrified of labor but also anxious, but I calmed down the last few months and kind of chilled out about the labor & birth. Now that it is looming I have gone back to being scared of labor, birth and thereafter - and trying to talk myself to be calm about it.

At school they are in the process of hiring a sub to take my place until May 1. All 3 candidates are just out of school, so it should be interesting. I'm not going to worry about that so much but it is weird to be leaving in the middle of the year and thinking everyday could be my last for a few months. I'm sure once I have the baby I won't care but thinking of the transitions right now is kind of stressful. Some days I feel like a couple of weeks would be good so the baby will be a good size & I can get back on my feet earlier and start training sooner and others I think March 1st would be just fine due to how our lives are going to flip upside down (in a good way but still)! I guess overall I want to have a healthy baby and not be induced for being late. Sleeping isn't the most fun with the # of times I have to get up and then reposition, but other than that, I'm really not that uncomfortable. Just picture having a basketball under your shirt all the time and that is about it.

Here are the votes so far:

Make a vote! ( I just bought 12 jars of naturally nutty and I'm blaming Run to Finish - some PB may have to be a prize for the winner to get it out of my house!)

And the tag by Aron - thanks aron! Your blog is quite fabulouso!

These are my top 4 addictions:

1 - running
2 - blogging & reading blogs about running

  2. I dont know from experience but i've heard all the stress, worry, and annoyances are totally worth it once your lil one is here! Do you know the sex of the baby and are keeping it a secret or are you being surprised? I dont know why but i never knew.. :)

  3. I can't even begin to imagine the stress you're going through. Everything will fall into place just the way it's suppose to. Don't worry about the sub, you have other things to take care of. I'm going with girl, Feb. 28, 7lbs 1oz.

  4. you won't care at all about school once the kid is here. though i agree, it sucks now because you DO care. i'm sticking with girl, 6 days early (2/14??), 7 lbs 2oz.

  5. oh boy do I remember exactly how you feel. I was a big ball of extremes and terribly anxious and nervous and freaked about everything (and don't even get me started about AFTER the baby was born - ha!). BUT...the closer I got to the end - I think I was so uncomfortable that I was begging for labor to start just so I could GET IT OUT. And to find out what IT was! hehehe
You are totally going to be fine...just remember to go with the flow and not have your heart set on labor/delivery being a certain way - it's all such a crapshoot, and in the moment, time seems to go by very quickly!

    I think it's gonna be a girl...6lbs - 4oz.
Hugs to you - you're doing GREAT!

  6. I also remember how you feel but I promise you once the whole labor process gets started so many things are happening that you don't even have the presence of mind to be nervous.

And to add to my vote, since I picked my birthday I'll also pick girl and my birthweight, 7 lb, 9 oz.

  7. FINALLY someone who agrees with me on this! When i have kids (someday) i do NOT want to know the sex of the baby! I think being surprised is MUCH more fun!

  8. I'll guess 02/24, girl, 7lbs, 7oz. :) You are doing great!

  9. It's not THAT bad. Honest. I've just blogged my experience. Just relax. Being uptight will only make it worse and longer.

    I'm guessing a boy, Feb 22 and 8lb 2. I wonder where I got those from :-)

    Take care

  10. I have really nothing to base this on since it's my first visit, but I'll say Feb 20, girl - 7lb, 8 oz!

  12. I have been following your blog after I stumbled on it a couple of weeks ago. Not pregnant, but running and thinking about it :) Your blogging is going to be a huge help!

Can't offer you an advice about the stress, but you look great and the fact that you're still churning out the miles is amazing!

    Going to guess 15th Feb 6lbs 8oz

  13. Ah, I remember it fondly actually..only because of the end product. If you think you're one extreme to the other quickly now, it only magnifies once labor starts, except you will be happy, doubting yourself, searching for strength and nervous and crying and overcome with joy all at the same time. And then you will meet the most amazing person on earth and you will so content and at peace...you won't feel the pain nor will you remember it once that little voice is heard!

I thought it would be different with the second one just because I had done it before. But you're still flooded with emotion and nervous just for different reasons.

You're going to be a great mom, you wouldn't be worry so much now if you weren't!

  14. I feel a little guilty...except um oh yeah it's so good and it lasts and you'll totally eat it and hello 50% off :)

  15. if the prize IS peanut butter (even the natural kind) can i just guess every day, weight and sex from here til may? because, you know, i'm' not allowed to buy PB anymore.

  16. I'm not even preggo and when I think about all that stuff you've described, I get totally anxious about myself one day, LOL! I can only imagine what you're going through.

You are totally tough though and you're going to do great! When you see that little kid in your arms, everything will just start to make sense.

    At least, that's what I'm told, ;)

  17. all my friends that have had babies went through these same emotions... but as it gets closer they just wanted the baby OUT! you are going to do amazing and are in SUCH awesome shape!!! thats going to be a big help come "labor day" :)

  18. You're right about the transition. My sub had so little experience too and it was a little stressful to get her ready for my leave. But, really, once you're out of there, you're out and not worrying about the classroom. Oh, you're going to have a great time.

  19. My friend took over for a woman who was out from having a baby. She had trouble at first (she started at the beginning of the year) but soon things settled down and she seemed to really make an impact on the kids.

    Ok heres my guess -
    March 1st, 7 pounds 3 ounces
    girl!!

I get stressed about giving birth too and I am not even close to having a baby at all!! I am just afraid of the pain but I am sure that you will be fine! Everyone has babies and survives and usually has more than one kid!!

  20. I'm telling you . . Feb 18th!! That's when my 2nd was born. I say the baby will weigh in at 6lbs 12oz ;-)

  21. I'm sure you're anxious but everything is going to be fine.. no, it will be amazing. :) Try to relax and everything will work out the way it is meant to.

I am going to say Feb 25th, 6 lbs 10 oz, girl. :)

  22. Feb 19! :) I think it will be a BOY who is SUPER FAST and loves running and he will wear little nikes when you run boston :) I think he'll be 7 lbs and 6 oz. :)

  23. I don't have any kids so I can't relate yet, but when I do get pregnant I think I will be referring to your blog often:)

  24. Aww I have not been around for a bit and now look at you about to welcome the littlest runner! How exciting you have been such a tough cookie through this never giving up your workouts and always striving!!

so, that is one tough lil runner girl like you weighing in at 6 11

  25. As a teacher myself, I sometimes wonder how a teacher prepares for such a long leave of absent. What do you teach? I teach special education and even though I create new "lesson plans" each week, it is already off by Tueday, LOL.

  26. Ok, my vote is:
Girl, Feb 16th arriving at 6 lbs and 5 oz. I made sure I picked one that no one else had!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Okay, Viv stole my weight guess of 6 lb 11 oz, but I'm still guessing that since it was what I weighed. I say a girl born on Friday the 13th! I love Friday the 13th, and hope that at least one of my kids is born on that day.

That's cool about Kara Goucher wanting to have a baby. After you wrote about her last time, I read a bunch of stuff about her New York marathon experience and saw that she wanted to try to get pregnant after she runs Boston. So you two will totally have something in common. = )
