First Birthday

Nick's birthday is in less than 2 months. I just realized you probably send out invites about a month before which is right after Christmas. I started thinking about it as a project because I need to have things lined up to keep me busy - but haven't come up with anything. What cute themes have you seen? What are some ideas? I know I can take it as far as I want - some people go all out and some make it low key. I think somewhere in the middle would be great. I want to have some kind of theme for the cake, invites, decor... and keep it a small crowd. So what are some theme ideas?

  1. Does Nick have a favorite character? Elena is all about Elmo so for her 2nd birthday (which is less than 2 months away) we might do an Elmo theme since Elena just goes insane when she sees anything Elmo.

  2. How about Lil Runner as the theme? :)

Excited to hear how the brainstorming's going on Friday!

  5. We did low key gathering. I think it's the way to go :-)

For a theme we just used jungle animals. We didn't want to "steal" any possible ideas that would work later on for the 'lil man, like cowboy, trucks, train, elmo, etc.

Good luck planning! I waited 'till the last minute and was up way too late the night before!

  6. Is there anything he is into right now? The new banner is so fitting for this time of year.

  7. Unless you want a keg of Bud Light and some nacho dip as your theme, I'm out for suggestions.

  8. I like the new picture up top.

We went with a monkey theme since he loves monkeys and we have a ton of monkey stuff. In retrospect, we probably should have done a car theme.

  13. I am doing a color theme for Emma's next week...pink and brown. I also am giving everyone a snowflake ornament as a gift since she was born in a snow storm. Attached is the quote, "It takes a village to raise a child." Thanks for being part of our village!

My fav. idea though was the invite. I took her picture with a party hat on and used it for the invite. It was hilarious since I found a pink, feathery one. But everyone loved it because then they had a updated picture of her. Only 6 days before Christmas we are keeping it a little smaller with just family and a few of her "first friends".

So fun!!! But where did the time go???

  14. I didn't do a theme, but I did get lots of supplies off Etsy (a banner, hats, invitations). I think that's all that really matters.

  16. With 18 years of birthday parties to host, I have always remembered the fact that I don't want to give my kids too much too soon. I want them to appreciate things and not expect them. A bit deep for a first party. Sorry

My point. I went small. Family and very close friends. The wonderful messy cake experince. Ripping presents open. Great converstaion for the grown ups.

No matter what you do. Enjoy your celebration of the first wonderful year.

  17. For my kid's first birthdays we had both of them at home. When they turned one years old my husband set up little play stations at our house with the different toys and let the kids go wild. We bought one of those balloon machines and had balloons all over the floor and ceiling. I think that was the biggest hit! It is so much fun planning for their first birthday :-) Good luck!

  18. A friend did an Elmo cupcake "cake" it was really neat. you place the cupcakes in rows and use frosting (to look like Elmo's head) to connect the cupcakes. I wish I had a pic..
