It hasn't been a good week for lil enormous runner. This means, I haven't been able to run too much this week.
I took the morning off on Tuesday and was able to run 7.3 miles. I rounded it out to 8 later on after work for the day. I was exhausted that night. Wednesday is the day that I swim and I wasn't feeling great when I woke up, I was having stomach issues. I floated for 1/2 hour and went off to school, feeling horrible. I didn't feel well and was exhausted all day Wednesday, and came home and vegged out. Today I went running after work outside and my shins and calves were SCREAMING. It was not a comfortable run. And I feel enormous lately. I have never had shin splints while running before - this started around a month ago and hasn't gone away. I've read about it, but none of the reasons why they start seem to apply to me. I don't know what is going on. My shoes have around 250 miles on them. So I made it through 3 miles in 35 minutes and planned to come home and run for about 1/2 hour more, but the baby isn't having any of that. After 5 minutes (even less I think) I felt a pain lower in my stomach that made me stop and walk, and it didn't go away even from walking so I had to call it a day. I guess my body is telling me that I need some rest. I'll take it for a week but that's it!!! I've done only 12 miles this week total and usually I'm done 20. I don't even know if I'll make it to 20 for the week!! That's half of what I've done the last 2 weeks! :(
Bummer that the mini-lil runner is making running difficult! It seems like lousy weeks/good weeks come and go, so hopefully next week will rock and mini-lil runner will start loving running as much as you :)
ReplyDeletetake it easy girlie... good job for listening to your body - you probably need some rest!! i hope you are feeling better soon, but just keep listening and taking care of yourself and lil baby runner.
ReplyDeleteI know that sucks. And feeling like you're getting bigger everyday while not being able to workout as much isn't so much fun. Seriusly, try water running. It's not a bad way to stay fit when running on the ground isn't as comfortable. And be assured that it'll all come back faster than you'd think. Keep your aerobic base however you can and you'll feel like an AEROBIC MACHINE come February! :)
ReplyDeleteWay to listen to your body.. rest the weekend away and maybe you'll feel better on monday! Keep your chin high, my friend, things will get better! :)
ReplyDeleteCan you blame it on the full moon? I like to blame things on objects outside my power, then I feel less responsible.
ReplyDeleteHope next week is much better for you.
Sorry about the shin pain. That su-uh-ucks. But don't bum out too much N-slice. You wisely reconize that you need to take some time off, slow down, and rest a bit more. Your body is working overtime to take care of the LIL'est Runner in your belly. Capisce?
ReplyDeleteThat's a huge bummer. It's got to hard when you're motivated and your body just won't go along with the plan. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry chica! That is a bummer. Take er easy ;-)
ReplyDeletenext week could be all better! take it one day at a time. and i agree with mama simmons, water running ain't bad! since you swim anyway... also, the getting bigger thing sucks but once you look undeniably pregnant it actually gets kinda fun!! (to a point anyway.)
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about the difficulty. But, I agree, listening to your body is probably the best thing right now.
ReplyDeleteBTW, have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteIm sorry lil runner you are still lil runner. I can imagine how frustrated you must feel. Take the rest and make the littlest runner will cooperate soon. I am no Dr. but I know when ever I get shin pain it is because something else is not right on my form so I over stride or don't relax the toes...just my 2 cents
ReplyDeleteRest and enjoy the rest now when before long you won't be able to make through Dancing With The Stars without changing a diaper, just sayin
Yuck on the shin splints! My biomechanics drastically changed in my first pregnancy, and after stubbornly resisting, I finally had to ditch the shoe model that had been my stand-by for years. Might be worth a try to get a stride evaluation, though the water running sounds pretty nice too!
ReplyDeleteLOL, "Lil Enormous Runnuer". Awww...
ReplyDeleteThat stinks. I know how much of a bummer this is for you.
I have to second what Mama Simmons said about water running. I haven't done it, but I know people who have while injured or pregnant and they all said it kept them in really good shape while they couldn't hit the pavement. It could be an option for you.
Good job listening to your body though. No matter how much you want to tell it to shut up! Haha.
Hang in there!!! You are not enormous! I saw you last photos. You're not big, at all. I'm sure mini-Lil Runner is adjusting, too. Maybe next week will be better??!!!
ReplyDeleteI am sure some rest will help you feel better. As for the shins, it may be due to the extra weight causing your usual for to be off. Great job getting the miles in that you did. Keep listening to your body.
ReplyDeleteMaybe its time for new shoes?? Just a thought. This could just be an off week - don't worry. Hope you feel better!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel too bad. I'm sure it's hard (especially comparing to your last 2 weeks), but you're still doing great. Plus, I'm sure with the end of the term, things are extra stressful at work, which can take it out of you physically. Not to mention the hormones.
ReplyDeleteYou've done great at listening to your body so far- I'm sure it's just a phase and you'll be back to 40 miles/week in no time!
Just listen to that baby - between the two of you you'll figure out what's best. Running is great and all, but babies are better. You'll see!

ReplyDeleteBummer that mini-runner is ruining your plan :( Take a rest and come back and you'll feel great! :) Listening to your body is so important, especially when there's another little visitor in your body! Keep up the AMAZING running schedule and you'll do great.
ReplyDeleteAww, sorry you are feeling bad. You did a great job getting out there when you could and you're smart to rest now that your body/baby is insisting on it. Just because you're feeling rough right now doesn't mean you won't feel great again in a few days! Hang in there, you are very awesome.
ReplyDeleteps I get shin splits all the time and it super sucks. Ice and rest and don't stress about it. :)
Maybe you do need a week of relaxation lil mama!
