Graham Crackers;Sucanat; Sick

I enjoyed reading the experiences with organic foods. I think we are just going to go all organic from here on out. We do have a fruit and veggie spray but I wonder what is even in it and if it is healthy/safe to use.  It's crazy how much we take for granted thinking things are good or ok for us!

I think I've mentioned I've been having troubles sleeping and it caught up to me a few days ago. I woke up and just felt awful yesterday. Sore throat, totally run down.  I managed to get in my normal running but I think it made it worse.  I was tutoring in the afternoon and if you've ever seen that hotel commercial where the guy has a battery over his head, I felt like my battery was flashing red - critical level. I was picturing it as I tutored, draining, draining, draining.   Last night I attempted to go to bed drug free (the night before I had tylenol PM and felt like I was having contractions and felt really messed up from it and I HATE taking medication) just after 9:30 and I tossed and turned until midnight, when I went to get some benadryl to help me sleep. I slept till about 530, which I think is what time I wake up naturally every morning now that it is light out, but I went back to sleep until 7:30.

I woke up and still felt awful! I tried to sleep during Nick's naps today with no luck. Things have just been running through my mind and I can't just fall asleep. It's awful because I am totally run down. I know that I am not feeling well when I can't motivate to get in a workout  - that always makes me feel better, but I had no energy today.  This morning I downed a couple of berry smoothies with orange juice and greens + to get some nutrients and soothing for my throat and had some soup later in the day.

I managed to make some graham crackers this afternoon from this recipe that Chari shared with me.  They turned out well!  It was the first time I used sucanat and I know nothing about it: I went in blind on this one.   Is it better than brown sugar or sugar?  What are its benefits?

Homemade Graham Crackers

Did you hear about the later registration date of the Boston marathon? I'd love for you to comment on my article!  :)

  3. Oh poor you! Feeling sick is horrid - especially when trying to tutor.

Lack of sleep is exhausting - I'm so tired too and you just want to sleep through but nope!

Take care, rest up, eat max fruit and I'm sure you'll feel better soon.

  4. That is awesome that your family is going to go all organic. I feel horrible saying this, but I am too lazy to do that. Perhaps if I had a Whole Foods a mile from my house, I would, but I am all about convenience.

I hope you feel better soon. Maybe your husband can do all the Nick care this weekend so you can get caught up on your rest. I am having trouble sleeping already (it is 4:45 am right now) since I often wake up to go to the bathroom and then can't fall back asleep.

  9. There must be something going around. I developed a sore neck Wednesday morning that was definitely not from any work out or sleeping in a weird position, and had that almost sore throat/ almost stuffed up feeling all day. Didn't help that I really had a full on work day either! Didn't do planned workout and went to bed early. Neck slightl better yesterday, more on the sniffles, but by the end of the day even though I was tired I felt OK to elliptisize (it could be a word!) for 1/2 an hour, early bed and feeling more like my usual self this morning. It might be a seasonal transition thing where for a while the temps vary so greatly that germs seem to stick around. Hope you're feeling better today!! Love the new pic.

  12. Yay for graham crackers! Well I think I remember reading about sucanant that it had some minerals in it, but your body still processes it just like sugar. I'm trying to be aware of what sweeteners I use and how our body processes them. I'm not using agave anymore and only use honey and sometimes a little stevia. Plus if you buy local honey it helps your allergies. I have noticed a HUGE difference in my allergies this year. I know it's from the healthy eating and honey.

Sorry you aren't feeling well. I remember doing that some when I was pregnant, having trouble sleeping. No fun :-( Try to make lots of smoothies with spinach and kale, it's good for your immune system. This week I've made a goal to have 2 a day. I'm also eating lots of raw garlic that also helps with inflammation. Both of these things are helping my body to recover much better from my hard workouts the last few days.
