potty training

Here's where we are with potty training: Nick once a day for the most part will say POTTY! or POOP! and run to the bathroom. Sometimes he sits on the potty seat and goes right away, other times it is 15 minutes of getting up, looking in and sitting back down and he doesn't go at all. He goes most nights before his bath. We started off the whole process pre-bath with m & m's and it was pretty successful. At this point, I'm not sure where to go from here. Just take the rest of the week, stay home and keep him in pull ups or wear nothing and hope that he tells me when he has to go and run to the bathroom?  I feel like we're always out so how can I be consistent with this?

How did this work for you?  Nick seems ready for pull ups at the least, I think?  But diapers in the morning when we're out and work on it after his nap at home?  I need some pointers!

  1. I have no clue. But I'll be interested to see what works for you since we'll be there soon enough.

  2. Our oldest was not interested for the longest time. Our youngest was really interested in wearing those pink panties, but her body was just not ready yet.
Praise and m&ms will go a long way in helping you get to the goal. Good luck!
PS -I want to add a training log to my blog. How do I do it?

  3. I can't speak from experience with my own non-existent kids, but I've helped my grandma (the wisest person I know when it comes to babies and toddlers) when my cousins were little and she's pretty successful, pretty quick. My youngest cousin was a boy, but he was older than Nick. My grandma just put him in underwear and nothing else. She encouraged him to go and took him to the bathroom several times, but if he had an accident (Did I mention this method can be messy?) it did not feel good and he did not like it. He had to "help" clean it up and get a fresh pair of underwear. After a day or 2, he had completely caught on! Again, this method has mess-potential, but I've seen it work!

  5. day 3 for us went really well this morning...4 time she just up an sat down and went. one accident while eating breakfast. personally i think naked at home work best. i've seen andra go from no clue to actually just doing things herself when she needs to, in less than 3 days. not sure she could handle pulling up/down pants or undies at this point, but hopefully in a few days she will be able to or able to give me enough notice to do it for her. she's at daycare now, with a diaper...they will be more into it there next week since there's a boy who they will start training then. for now, i just needed a little break from the whole process!

  6. I tried really hard when G was 2 1/2 and I thought he was ready - turns out he wasnt and it was very stressful for everyone and NO fun. So we just stopped and sure enough right at 3 he told us he was ready and never had an accident again.

Next time around I wont stress myself out so much :)

  7. I think we're all in the same boat! Em was so into it and now doesn't want to be bothered but I think I am going to try the candy thing. Let me know if you get any good pointers that work.

  8. My first 2 were by the book, it was lots of laundry and never leaving the house. The last 3 were left till they were READY it then took hours literally!

  9. I did the Potty Boot Camp. It sucked but it worked. Yes, we stayed in for 4 straight days, but after 1 week, she was fully potty trained.

  10. Ryan started "playing" around around 2.5 years old...but that's all it was. He wasn't really ready until 3 and he was 3.5 before he was fully trained (not wearing pull up at night).

Brayden has been wearing a pull up for a few months (starting at 2.5) but he's just playing around as well. he actually seems less ready than Ryan was and is only doing it because of ryan.

If it's going well, say a quiet thank you and keep up the praise for him when he does go...just be prepared for a potentially long potty training session. Of course I've heard girls are much easier and it happens much sooner...don't have that experience though.

    good luck!
