That was the quote that I was thinking of when I was running my 20 this morning... almost 20, I think I did around 19 or 19.5 and wiped out (it was slippery and I slipped on a rock) at the end and called it a day! Last long training run, but I didn't nail it. I think I'll just be out for a finish on Nov 22! It stinks that I'm not into this training - it is disheartening.
The fun part about the run is that I met Denise for the first time in person - yay! It was nice to run with her and meet her!
Fueling- I think I was dehydrated, water looked so refreshing. I only took one GU after 2 hours. My face was all salty at the end - is that good or bad? My fueling strategy needs work. My stomach is definitely sensitive lately.
As I was running I was thinking of the needed break that I will take after the marathon, and then maybe pick a tri to do in 2010. I don't know which distance I should start with for the tri. I think I will have fun with that!
Don't forget to enter the Solstice Giveaway! The bars are super good!
Congrats on the last LONG run! Must feel good. A break will be nice.
ReplyDeletehey, i USED to run marathons... you're ABOUT to run one! if you don't have a road bike yet just start with a sprint tri. if you do, you definitely have enough run and swim to do an olympic! i am hoping to do an olympic in 2010 but i'll probably drown since the swim is first.
ReplyDeleteI did a sprint tri earlier this year and it was a ton of fun. You may want to do a sprint first if you've never done one just cuz there is a lot of logistical stuff to worry about with triathlons. Then once you get that stuff down you can do a longer distance :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the long run! That's so cool that you got to meet Denise. That must have been fun!
ReplyDeleteAnd, congrats on Nick's win!!!
Sorry you had a rough time!
ReplyDeleteI have totally fallen off the running completely for the past week and a half or so. My brother and nephew just ran a fun-run 2k today and kind of gave me a little motivation to at least pick a 5k soon. At least I'd have someone to run with! I have never had anyone to run with.
Well, at least the "hard' part is over and hopefully the taper will serve as a mental break for you. I"m more than ready to taper. And ya, I too, will be taking a break for a while after the marathon. I need to get back into the love of the sport. I think I'm on the overtrained side of things since I'm getting unmotivated. Here's to a good taper!!!
ReplyDeleteI am aiming to finish the 1/2 - so we'll both be out there with the same goal :) If you think about the last year, you've done some amazing things - so you deserve to just go out and have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteUgh. I didn't know you had such a bad day yesterday. And sorry about the fall. It's happened to me back there before and it sucks. I hope you're ok. It was so nice meeting you.
ReplyDeleteNice job on the Long run girl! You got the miles in and thats all that matters. As for being salty, i dont think thats a good thing. Everyone almost always is salty but being super salty is bad. I've been taking salt capsules during my long runs and it really helps. I notice i'm hardly salty after a 16 miler with capsules opposed to one with no capsules. Check them out. Also make sure your getting enough water/fluids. You dont wanna be dehydrated on race day! :) Great job though- i'm proud of you!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry you had a rough long run, I hope you're ok after your fall. If you're feeling not-into running, I bet a tri will be just the thing to get you motivated again. I did a sprint back in August and loved it.
ReplyDeleteGood job on getting those miles in - don't focus on the distance really, I am sure you were out there a while and that def counts! The salty thing is not a good thing at all. It means you were dehydrated. But with that being said, I am not someone to give advice about this. I am not the best hydrater and often finish runs and races with a salty, gritty face.
ReplyDeleteNov 22 will be an aweosme day for you, just enjoy! :)
