A dive off the couch & 9 months

Yesterday I plopped Nick on the couch in the corner propped there w/ a pillow while I stirred something for dinner. I literally turned around for a minute, and I turn to look at him and he is on all fours - the pillow is on the floor and he's about to dive right off the couch after it. I think I shouted NO NO NO!! And he was off... landed on the pillow shoulder first and I almost had a heart attack. He as ok after a huge crying session. I felt horrible. Stupid, stupid mom! You aren't supposed to leave them for a second. Before he used to just sit there, now he reaches for everything!! I couldn't put this on my baby blog because people read it, especially my inlaws. My father in law hates to hear him cry, so I'm pretty sure he would freak out to picture him falling off the couch. I definitely can't write anything about it.

Nick is 9 months old today! Crazy how fast the time went. I love the little hats on babies!

  1. Little Nick is growing up! He's going to be running all over the house in no time. Glad he's OK!

  2. Kids fall off things. It happens. No one thinks you're a bad parent.

When my youngest brother was a baby, I was swinging him in a hammock, and mid-swing, he flew right out! Into some bushes. And I mean, seriously, he was a baby (like, maybe, 6 or 7 months old), and I virtually slung him into some bushes at top hammock-speeds.

And he's a perfectly healthy 22 year old now.

So, if my brother could survive my care, I'm sure Nick will turn out superbly!

  7. Don't beat yourself up - it's hard to get used to a squirming kid when they used to just LAY there. haha! There will be many bumps and bruises to come...just part of being a kid. I feel like I should warn you about the learning to walk stage - oy! Hopefully your in laws can remember what it's like and not give too much crap about every little spill he takes!

  8. That's ok. Kids are gonna fall. We do our best to prevent it but sometimes it just happens. Jackson fell out of our bed a couple times while we were co sleeping. He's still doing ok :-)

  9. I'm with everyone else here on this one! All kids will fall off the bed or couch at some point. Luckily they don't actually get hurt too easily. :)

  10. Do NOT feel bad - if anything you're an awesome mama! It happens to everyone (even those of us who have looked after other people's kids). While I obviously don't condone throwing them around like footballs, they're hardier than we give them credit for. And parents I have sat for weren't worried in the slightest, even when one of them tripped going down cement steps and scraped up her nose and forehead (I truly thought I was the worst person ever!).

  11. Aww poor baby! That happens though. Ethan had no fear of falling until the other day when he fell onto some pillows as well. Now he's leary of getting on the edge of anything!

I just got those endurance cubes today! Finally! I'll be mailing those out to you.

  13. There will be lots more falls, trust me. It's his job to test his boundaries and he'll get some bruises in the meantime. You are doing great. Just wait until he decides to start trying to crawl out of his crib. This little couch episode will seem like nothing.

Happy 9 months to the little guy!

  14. Don't feel guilty! He is fine and it won't be the first time! Chalk it up to a learning session...now you know the couch is not a good spot to plop. Enjoy the weekend - I can't believe he is already 9 months!!!
