The schedule calls for 20

When I typed in the date to SmartCoach for the Philly Marathon in late September, it wasn't a full 16 weeks until the marathon. I just took a look at it, seeing the back to back 20 milers again, kind of forgetting that my plan was to do 12. I think I should probably do around 16-18? Last weekend was 20 and I did 19. The weekend before was an 18 miler. 2 weeks till marathon day, what should I run this weekend?

In baby thoughts, does your little one wake up mid nap usually? Nick's sleep patterns seem all messed up! He was doing so well and sleeping 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon on an ideal day. This week I'm lucky if I get more than an hour for one of the naps and around 40 minutes for the other. He used to wake up mid nap and go back to sleep after 10 minutes, but that doesn't seem to be happening anymore - he just stays up! He's 9 months tomorrow (crazy!)
What are your thoughts?

Update on everything else - I kind of stopped counting calories and being aware and seem to be up a few pounds. WTF - I cannot seem to make anything work for me and I don't feel like I'm overeating. I'm doing Jillian Michaels once a week and swimming at least twice a week. So unfair, I want new genetics for my body type. Eat clean seemed to be a trend (I was making yogurt cheese for a few weeks and then stopped)- but I use some of the tips in there everyday and try to incorporate protein at most meals.

  1. As for running, I would try for at least a 16 miler if not 18. It will pay off. But don't worry, you are gonna be fine with Philly!
As for Nick, I got nothing - no babies here!
You're probably not overeating, but calories in minus calories out equals weight loss. I am sure you are doing fine.
And I swear, I really thought I had the soltice bar giveaway in the bag! Sheesh!

  2. You are lucky - my younger niece didn't even break the 1 hour mark for 1 nap a day!! Maybe you need to be boring so he won't want to see what interesting things you keep doing all day :) I don't have an advice for Phila training - my 1/2 was thrown for a loop after holiday and ankle!

  3. I'm no help with the training, but you're getting so close!

  4. Many marathon plans have you running 18 two weeks out... go with your gut though and run how ever far YOU think you need to.

And as far as the napping goes... I think they do sleep less as they get older. Or they're supposed to at least. Moana is still sleeping a ton, but her little friends are sleeping less. ;) I think as long as one of the naps is longer (like 90 minutes) then the second one can be 45 minutes no worries.

  5. I only did 16 miles 2 weeks out and am doing 12 easy this weekend. How do your legs feel? Mine are a little tired, so I think the 16 miles was a good choice.

  6. I think 16-18 sounds solid, then next weekend a 12 miler, and then the marathon!

I have no advice/thoughts ont he nap thing. Norah is still too little to have a regular nap schedule. She sleeps predictably at night, but during the day is always a bit more sporadic.

  7. Two weeks before, I would run 20K or so, so 12 miles.

Sorry to hear that you're having a tough time with the scale. I have to be 100% focused on what I am eating (regardless of how much I exercise) in order to lose.

  8. I'd be careful doing a 20 this close to race day. What about 15. I picked that cause that's what I'm doing!! I really have no clue but I think 20 might be too much.

As for counting calories, I've been really happy with counting points lately. It's SO much easier than counting calories.

  9. no running advice...i only wish i could even run 12 right now. as for naps, andra transitioned herself to 1 nap a day around 8 months and hasn't looked back...she sleeps about 12-2. she REFUSED to sleep one morning and that was that. maybe nick is starting to do that? though "they" say it happens closer to a year.

  10. Emma did the same around that age...She stopped her afternoon nap all together unless I drove her around! I know that their sleep habits change often but maybe he is teething too. Hang in there with the weight...you are doing great!

  11. sorry to hear he's cutting naps short...but maybe it's just a "phase" with the time change. I can't remember what Jackson was up to at that age...and I"m a bad mom and didn't write it down so I can't really compare. But I think he was doing two hour long-ish naps. He's never been a huge nap taker.

I'm trying to figure out what to do, too. Hal says to do 12 (all of hsi plans do 20, 12, 8 then marathon)...but others do longer. So I think I'll just see how I"m feeling...and since I"m fighting off a cold I might just shorten it and say what the heck :-)

  12. Thats how I am too, I run, run, run and I don't lose any weight. I don't get it but this week I have quit eating after 7pm. I have all ready lost 3 lbs.!!!! It doesn't seem that bad now but the first 3 days were brutal, I drink diluted juice every time I feel like I'm going to cave.
Good luck on your training run and marathon!! I'm lucky to do 20 miles in a week:)!

  13. I feel like I did 20 two weeks out for my first marathon, but I'm not positive. You've got enough miles under your belt that you should be okay for Philly, though - just do what feels right for the weekend.

  14. Hey, just happened to see this on runnersworld.com - thought it might be of interest: http://thepenguin.runnersworld.com/ (in case there've been new things posted, it's the question about the ideal time for the final 20 miler)
