Sketchers Shape Ups; toys

I'm interested in finding out more about Sketchers Shape Ups - they look pretty sweet and I saw them in a store about a month ago and ever since I have been coveting them.  Regardless if they work to shape up your calves, I like how they give you a lift so they would make my legs look longer and thinner, I think!

Does anyone have them? I'm not sure that I believe the toning aspect, but I like the idea of improved posture and less tension on the knees. What do you think? I keep looking for them on sale. I can't justify spending $100 on them, but maybe $70 and I'd take the plunge.

TOYS

Nick has a wagon and I'm thinking about getting him a little car to push around. I can't decide if it is too repetitive. HE loves pushing buttons and I think the car would be a hit since he's totally into trucks, cars, and buses right now. Does anyone have any suggestions on the ride on / push toys out there for toddlers? These are the two I've been looking at:

I feel like running is becoming easier - I'm able to run faster than I was in the past many weeks!
I hope this continues! :)

I'm featured this week on Food Buzz for Family Bites - 9 recipes. Check it out :)

  1. We have the second toy. Ethan got it for christmas. I love it, BUT YOU have to push him and it can't be converted to a toy where he can "drive" it himself. We do take it for walks around the addition though and he loves that. For more bang for your buck I'd shoot for a toy that can be converted later. 2. I should say the downside is that he is always getting in it and wanting to be pushed around in the house all the time.

  3. I have no experience with either the shoes or the toys. Sorry, useless on this one.

  4. My friend has those shoes and says she thinks they might work for toning just because they are really heavy! She said they are comfortable though.

  5. I've been wondering about those Shape Ups too, as well as a similar concept by Reebok that claims to shape & life your butt. Hmmm...

  6. Going barefoot or wearing a very minimal shoe and letting your body do what it is supposed to do is the best way to strengthen your legs. It also helps your lower back.
Those shoes will not replace exercise and core training. They say it will give you a better butt butt really can they back that claim up....at all? They are preying on womens insecurities that media has taught us by showing us what we should look like and not what is normal and healthy.......ok Angie steps off soap box now :) Some squats, even air squats will give you a cute butt!

  7. My son, who is 20 months, LOVES his little tykes car (the first one). He got it for his 1st birthday from my in-laws and he has loved it ever since. It comes with a base for inside so that when they are really little and can't push it with their feet, they can be pushed by an adult. The base is out now, and he is able to push himself all over the place, even on grass. The horn beeps and the key turns (it's not removable) and there are little cup holders in the back which he collects rocks, sticks, and acorns in. It is awesome and I highly recommend it!

  8. my neighbor wears these shoes. she says she can feel her muscles burning in a good way when she wears them. (those are her words). BUT, you are in shape and athletic! i feel like it wouldn't do much for you, if anything. $100? eek.

oh jeez, i remember that little red/yellow car, i think every kid has gotten stuck in that car at least once in their lifetime. why are they so fun to try to crawl into when you're 10 years old? but when you're stuck and panic sets in its not fun anymore, lol

  9. Bethany is cracking me up! She is SO right - I also got my fat butt stuck in one at a way too old age!
The car is fun - I got one for my nephew when he turned 1 and he used it until about 3 :)

  10. My mom bought Shape Ups on Friday and I don't know that she took them off all weekend. She says they are the most comfortable shoe she has!

  11. So glad the running feels easier - that happened to me too.
I can't help feeling that we'll end up reading articles on how all these fit flops etc have caused damaged legs in a year or two... or is that me just being sceptical and a total skin flint (some one who doesn't want to spend any money). I think that they may make a smidge of a diff to the unathletic.
Both toys look so cute. Mt friend got given a wee scooter bike for her toddler and he loves it and uses it all the time. Apparently they help kids make an eier transfer to a proper bike as they've not got used to stabilisers and have worked on their balance for a while.

  12. I'm a minimalist when it comes to shoes so those Sketchers are the opposite of interesting for me.
Moana played in that first car toy at a friends house. She was obsessed with it!! Loved loved loved it.

  13. i think they're ugly, BUT i did try them on when i was looking for solutions for my ankle, and they were more comfy. toning, though? somehow i don't think they are better than oh, say, running a few miles. i think the claim only applies to those who don't really work out.
andra has the first car at daycare and they all like it.

  14. i say go for the car and he can drive it as he pleases or be pushed... but thats my opinion! :) cant wait to hear about his new toy!

  15. My mom just got those shoes and I tried them on and they felt so weird - like I was gonna fall backwards, which I suppose is what forces the toning and all..but still, I didn't feel very stable on those things. Maybe try them when you're not pregnant? Or not holding a baby? hehe.
As for the car - I 2nd everything Laura said about it. Adam loves his. We tried out the 2nd one in the store, but it didn't have enough leg room, he seemed all squished - and he's got short legs! So we opted for the car and he puts all kinds of stuff in there and scoots around the house.

  16. The first car is the coveted toy at our park. All the kids fight to play with it if there's one there. We're looking for one on Craig's List for Baker since we're cheap.

I say no to the shoes. Too gimmicky for me, but I just like my flip flops.
