Do you lift?

Since I have been unable to workout, I've been thinking alot about what I will do to get back in shape after the baby is born. I'll be excited to run, but I'm thinking I'll tone down running a bit and aim for shorter races until I'm feeling the itch of doing a marathon.  I plan to continue cross training and coming up with a good training plan for a spring triathlon and see if I like them.  Today I was able to swim- yippee! It felt so good to have the energy to move my body. I also lifted briefly and thought how it would be nice to have a trainer taking me through different exercises and working me hard. I've never found one that I would pay tons of money for, but I'd like to have a partner or a reasonable trainer.

Do you lift? How do you motivate? What kind of exercises do you do? How often?

Last day for the CSN giveaway...

  1. I've thought about starting to lift too. I'm thinking of having a trainer show me the correct way to do things for a few weeks, then go on my own; that way I'm only paying for a few trainer sessions.
Yay for swimming! You're doing great!
I hope you like triathlon; I think it's so fun!

  3. I always used to, but haven't since we moved because I haven't joined a gym yet. My running is much better and I have fewer running joint aches and pains when I lift regularly.

  4. I used to HATE lifting I'm sure you read all those posts :) But I started doing P90X and kinda decided I liked it. I wasn't following the whole program exactly due ot marathon training, but with what i did I definitely started to see my arms, shoulders and back change

  5. I don't lift but my husband does (and I should but I'm too shy to go to the local high school & lift with a bunch of 18 year old boys).
But there's stuff you can do at home. I highly recommend the Biggest Loser Weight Loss Yoga. There's 3 levels (one is abs and one is lifting) and it's HARD but really good. I really love it.

  6. After these next few marathons I'm toning down too. It takes too much of a toll on your body IMO to run too many marathons. I see too many runners at work with bad knees having them replaced as they age and I do NOT want that

  7. I have started lifting since I am not doing much besides walking right now. I have mostly been doing stuff at home with a set of 10 lb weights and elastic tubing. It is fun and I like how I feel leaner when I lift. I hope you enjoy triathlons for a change of pace this spring. They are lots of fun!

  9. Sigh... all this talk of lifting makes me feel guilty. I tend to neglect strength training, and really hate weights, but do try to do a little pilates and pushups each week to compensate.

  10. i LOVE lifting!! LOVE IT! even more than running. it kills me when i don't have the time to get it in w/ the ultra training. i feel so much better about myself when i do lift and can see such positive results. i can't wait to have my personal training cert so i can do this all the time!

  11. i'm horrible at lifting - i definitely need to get into it though. A few years ago, I had this one great circuit class that was a lot of fun with an instructor that really pushed me. i've heard good things about body pump too.

  12. I try and exercise 6 times a week and because my husband works long hours at the hospital I have to work out at home. I alternate between the treadmill, and beach body workouts..insanity and p90x. they are all great workouts. I even add a little bit of the Firm, the older workouts and Tae Bo, which is a great workout. I couldnt' workout while I was preggo either and with this third baby the weight is hard to lost but finally budging and weights and cardio mix sare really doing the job. Don't worry about it now, enjoy being pregnant. You will have no problem getting back in shape!~

  13. I have a trainer - and if I didn't, I'd probably still be faffing around at the gym!! I only see her when she or I (or both) feel it's necessary, and she emails me a strength and running program based on how the last session went. She charges $80/session, which I think is very reasonable. Plus she doesn't let you slack off - EVER :) and she's an amazing running mama to boot! I'm not sure about trainers at gyms - probably best to do some research first? I found mine through a local web-site.

    Great news on the swimming!!!
