Double Jogger, Best of Times, Dinners

Sometimes I wonder if the double jogger was worth it. Nick rarely wants to sit in it. It gives me the option at least if I want to jog with both of them but I go so slowly that I'm not really sure that it was a necessary item. Nick's tolerance level is about 15 minutes. It is nice for places like the mall until I take Nick out or he wants out - again, 15 minutes. Maybe in the future he'll sit longer? Or maybe if I have another girl, girls seem more low key. Kara and the baby girl could sit in there?  Regardless, we made it out yesterday afternoon and I was able to "run" for 15 minutes. It was nice, felt nice, great weather.

Today I was able to run for 15 minutes at the gym while both kids played in daycare there and then 45 at home while both then just Nick was napping and Kara hung out and played.  While the run felt good, and I NEEDED it - a) it was rough because the weather outside is gorgeous and I would have really liked to be out there running and b) I felt tired. My knees hurt. I feel tired tonight. I rested 5 straight days. Tomorrow I'm going swimming.

Dinners this week were sucky. Nothing good to post - last week was probably the best week of dinner ever so I'm making up for it this week by not feeling like making anything.  What are your throw together in a few minutes dinners? Here - Dr Praegers and a veggie, pepper and eggs

Lately I've been wondering - is this the best of times? Is this as easy as it will ever be? I'm at home and not working with 2 adorable children that I'm absolutely love.  I get to choose what we do everyday and while I'm a prisoner to their schedules which stinks at times, I have the time to workout and make healthy things. And at times, to scrapbook - a hobby.  I am savoring every minute but at times I do complain (of course).  If you are a mom, what was the easiest time for you (how old were your kids)? What was the hardest?  Any lessons learned?

  3. I love the picture of Nick running!!

I was wondering if a double jogger would be worth it. Not that I have money to splurge on one lol

I have often thought about how easy it may be now compared to having 2. I hear lots of parents say how having 3 really isn't any different than 2 so I guess it's just the matter of learning how to balance more than one child. As they get older they can help out more and play with each other when you are taking care of a little one. That's what I assume anyway.

  4. I can only imagine how heavy a double jogger is as a single one is pretty hard going!

It is hard so of course you can complain (I just had a grumpy blog!)But yes, I do think, despite everything, it is (was before starting to go back to work) the best time.

Throw together meals usually involve pasta (rice pasta) or as I tend to make batch size dinners that I put in the freezer they are my healthy microwave meals!

Remember to gradually increase your workload so as not to put your resting to waste. Oh and in answer to whether I monitor my HR daily - I do when training for something as I'm crud at resting too.

  5. Loving the new pictures.

I barely use the baby jogger anymore. Hopefully I will in the spring/summer. Although I'm not sure how long Cairn will sit in it. Lord knows how you move it with two children.

  6. Cute new pix! I love the expression on his face!

I think girls are much easier in a jogger. I've been using my double since my youngest was 8 wks - she just turned 4 - and she still loves it. I would try to take books and snacks to keep them occupied.

My hardest time was when my girls were really young. They are only 14 months apart so at one point I had an infant and barely one year old both totally dependent on me. As they grow older - it gets easier and easier. It helps that they are really good friends. I'm really enjoying this stage - 4 and 5 yrs. They are curious, semi-independent, entertaining, interactive, etc, etc.

So sorry for the long comment!!! Hope you can get out again today! It's supposed to be even nicer.

  7. Interesting thoughts on the double jogger since I am planning to purchase one. However, I have to use a stroller, no matter what, every day to walk outside with Norah and the dog, so I figure I need a stroller that accomodates two kids for that purpose. And, I don't have a treadmill or a gym membership, so running outside is my only running.

  8. Have you tried running to a destination for Nick...like I tell Em we are running to the park. It seems to get her excited to stay put...then again I make "chocolate milk" aka amazing grass for her to look forward to at home. Just a thought!

I think this from time to time....but with working and craziness of life I sometimes catch myself thinking...Oh God please don't let this be the best! I am making myself love each moment though because they just go by so fast!!!

  10. My go to meal is wholewheat pasta with tomato sauce and goat cheese. Goat cheese. Goat cheese. Did I mention I like goat cheese? :) Kara looks so tiny compared to Nick in that photo! Hope you can get out today and enjoy the weather, as it's supposed to be even nicer especially where you are!

  12. I have a double jogger, but really for the all-terrain aspect. Brooke will sit in it though, but I dont run with the kids. I tried with the single jogger and just couldnt hack it, and then I realized ... it made me hate running. I didnt want to worry about the kid in the stroller (sunscreen? hat? water?) and didnt want to push the extra weight. I only run on my own clock and its my chance to get away from the kids, after all, if I have to PEE with them I should at least get to run without them ;)

  14. Love the new header pic!
The double stroller never really worked for us. Just hard to get 2 kids to sit and be happy. Plus, it is super hard to run holding on to the stroller with both hands while pushing 50+lbs.
Lastly, I love my kiddos more than life itself, but the 0-2 yr range was the hardest. Both so needy, but in different ways. It does get easier. Keep running...it is the best therapy :-)

  15. The double jogger is hard enough to push while walking; I can't even imagine running with it. Also, perhaps it is a phase with Nick and the jogger? Elena was the EXACT same way when she turned 2. She is a lot better now, thank goodness, since some days I just need to get outside and move for sanity reasons. Hope you enjoyed the amazing weather on Thurs and Fri!

  16. I'm thinking back to when I had just 2 and remembering how much easier it was as far as going places, or just hanging around the house. Transitioning from 1 to 2 is probably the hardest to get used to, though. After that, it's just like, what's 1 more? :) It gets easier as they get older. My oldest is 13 and I can rely on him to babysit if the need arises. Every stage and every phase has its pros and cons. Just try to live in the moment and be sure to get a babysitter and go on a date with your husband every couple of weeks!
