15+ 3

This weekend an 18er was scheduled. I met up with Halley - who ran with me 2 weeks ago when I did 16. She did her first half marathon in September (PDR) and the most she ran so far was on Saturday - 15 miles. She is fast, she had a 1:45 at her first 1/2 - she ran XC in high school but is just getting into the racing scene. We did out and backs at Valley Forge on Saturday - it was humid and drizzly and I wasn't having a good day with some stomach issues, but we finished 15 miles. Several hours later I dragged myself on the treadmill to do 3 miles. I know it doesn't count the same as doing 18 straight, but at this point, I don't care that much - I'm doing maintenance miles to FINISH the marathon:)
I was happy it was done on Saturday and I could sleep on Sunday!
I'm actually looking forward to the marathon, but the training is not my highlight right now!

This week coming up is the 20. I think the weather will be cooler and I'll be happy to be done!

Cross training - Lifting
Last week I didn't lift at all but I swim 3 days a week. Do you cross train while marathon training? What about lifting? I can't fit it all in!

Don't forget to enter the giveaway - it ends Wednesday & now has additions such as GU, GU drink, Chocolate Agave #9, And various other fun things!!

  2. i can't fit it all in when i'm NOT marathon training! i'm finding that my workouts tend to have seasons...as much as i try to keep it all up all the time, something always has to give and that's ok! lift more after the marathon.

  3. Don't beat yourself up about having to finish your last 3 on the treadmill. You got it done! Yay! I try to cross train even during marathon training, which seems for me is all the time! I usually just work on my core, which is really what I need! :)

  4. I've never run that far, but I would imagine that it would be even -harder- to get back on the treadmill and run again after having already run the same day. That's mental toughness!

  5. Nice work :)

As for cross-training, I try but end up struggling to fit it all in. I've been doing a really good job with biking the past couple weeks, but I think it's because I'm fresh off the marathon and not running as much... we'll see how it goes with the ultra - keeping the mileage up on the bike is one of my goals.

  6. Nice job hitting your mileage! In a way I think running 3 miles later on is even harder than 18 straight.

  7. Good job just getting it done. And I'm not good about the lifting. If I do it, I do it once a week. I used to do it consistently every other day but those days are gone.

That picture of Nick is adorable. He could be in a commercial.

  11. I totally cross train during marathon training just so I don't have to run as much! I'm liking it.

And given the choice between lifting & swimming, I think I'd rather swim. Our weight room's pretty meh.

As for cross training, I never could fit it in while marathon training. I meant to and had the best intentions, but it just never got done!

  14. Dont beat yourself up on doing 15+3! Girl you got it done and thats all that matters. I got so burnt out at the end of training too. I was so glad to have that 20 miler DONE with- it just takes so long to run that far. I'm ready to run for a while short quick distances and skip out on the 15-20 mile runs for a while! :) I can totally relate and wish i could run with you this weekend! Good luck- i'm running 14.. which seems god awful! xoxo

  15. Hey...you got it in and that is what counts!!! And seriously...Nick is sooo cute in that picture! We're having issues getting a halloween costume. I procrastinated for one...but the boy refuses to have anything on his head. Takes away from a lot of cute outfits!!!
