pizzert;sugar;27 weeks

Nick has been quite picky for food lately.  This morning I made him a pizzert - I saw the recipe on Chocolate Covered Katie's blog. It was really tasty! He liked it.

PIZZERT - I ended up doubling the recipe
  • 1/2 c whole-wheat pastry flour (or just whole wheat seemed ok)
  • 1/2 c corn meal
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 T agave
  • 1 c almond milk
  • 1/2 c berries

SUGAR
I remember Amanda at Run to the Finish had made a post about sugar. It's ridiculous when you look at labels and realize how much "hidden" sugar is in things.  For example, have you tried Kashi's new cereal: Go Lean Crisp (Toasted Berry Crumble)?  It says right on the box "Naturally Sweetened." What does that mean to you? To me, I would think there are no added sugars.  However, look at the ingredients - Evaporated Cane Juice Crystals, Brown Rice Syrup, Evaporated Cane Juice.... while these are natural sweeteners, Wow! this adds a good chunk of sugars (10g!)   I feel like it is misleading. I will tell you that I really think this cereal is tasty and love the protein stats (9g).

27 weeks
I hit the third trimester yesterday, wow. It's going quickly.  Last week I did the glucose test (1 hour one) - hopefully that came out ok, that stuff tastes like straight up soda without carbonation. SUGAR.
Gross. Running - still have kind of a weird placement of the baby, so some days running is tough, and becomes walking.   I'm ok with it.  I went through it with Nick also. Swimming feels pretty good.  I am signed up for the Broad Street Run this weekend. I think I am going to do it, knowing it will take over 2 hours though.   Jog/Walking 30 miles this week took 7 hours and 39 minutes!

I feel lots of kicks and movement from the baby. I think that I am carrying higher than with Nick, or just don't remember the break in going to the bathroom during the night. I remember having to go to the bathroom like 3 times a night with Nick, but I haven't had to get up in weeks. What do you think?  I've had massive heartburn much earlier than with Nick this time also.  But other than those 2 things, my pregnancy has been the same.   I am stuck on names. I kind of like the idea of a boy's name for a girl - any ideas? boy names - I have a list but none I love. What goes with Nick? :)

  2. Yummy recipe, thanks. I think I'll try it this week.
Nice job getting your miles in, even if you have to walk! That bathroom situation is pretty nice - I was up 4-5 times a night by the 3rd trimester. Are you feeling like it's a girl then? You're getting so close!

  4. Almost all the cereals I picked up at whole foods to look at had some type of sugar! It's frustrating.

  7. My in laws wanted a boys name for a girl - they ended up going with Jaime and just switching the 'I' and 'M'. It's hard though - you suggest things and sometimes they have a weird or bad association with the name (ie knew someone in high school who was mean to them etc) and they can't use it!

  8. I have been drinking way too much sugar lately since I have been consuming a lot of ginger ale! Oh well, I am just trying to get through the first trimester and doing whatever I can to feel OK. Congrats on all your running/walking. That is impressive. Scott is running Broad St, but since there are so many people I am not sure if I will actually see you.

  9. We still haven't decided on names. I think we have for a girl but boys' names are still a bit uncertain.

I'm having a reprieve on the heart burn as baby has dropped a bit but it does mean I'm back up to the loo loads - 6 times last night! It also means that running has just not felt comfortable for the past few weeks so I've been hiking too - it does take forever, but if the weather is nice then it is lovely to get out in the fresh air. It totally lifted my mood today and was far better than heading to the gym. Might try a run on Sat - getting a bit worried about going out on my own now so on Sat Al can be around.

I like boys' names for girls so I hope you find one you like.

    Take care,

    Kaz

  10. a lot of these "healthy" foods have sugar hidden in them. that's why i stick w/ boring shredded wheat!

good luck this wknd. i'm going to miss running broad street this year.

  11. It is amazing to see all of the "hidden" sugars! I always like the name Brian or Ryan :)

  12. Hello! It's so good of you to mention how much sugar is hidden in the "healthy" foods we eat. This weekend at class we had a speaker that briefly mentioned that there is almost double the amount of sugar in Instant flavored oatmeal packs than in a serving size of Hershey's Chocolate Syrup! It's so immportant for people to read labels.
I can't believe you are in your third tri-mester! I wonder if all the slight differences in your pregnancy this time around could mean a possible little baby girl? :) :) I am so excited for you and Billy!

  13. That looks great! My kids would love it. Looking at the Kashi cereal, the sad thing is that 10 grams is really pretty good when compared to so many other cereals.

I'm running Broad St. too! I'll look for the preggo runner.

  14. Kashi is far better than most, but it's certainly no perfect. Bummer since I REALLY want to like it.

Names are soooo hard. I think we named one kid this weekend, but we still have one to go. I can't imagine trying to find a boy AND girl name we liked. Sure you just don't want to find out what you're having? ;o)

  15. I can't believe Broad Street is already this weekend! This year is flying... Enjoy it!

  16. Sugary or not, that Kashi cereal looks delish! I didn't know they had that new "flavor"; I might have to get me a box!

As for names, some friends of ours did a boy name for their daughter, and while it is a good name, I can tell you from their experience, they have had to do a lot of explaining and spelling to people about the name. Just something to consider.

  17. How did you get into your third tri already? You're right, it's going fast and I"m not even the one prego! LOL!
Don't ask me for name ideas, I'm hoping that my hubbs will be able to take on that responsibility - so if it sucks and the kid hates it they can just blame daddy! Hahahaha!
Love Kashi, but it is a million times better than the Lucky Charms I sometimes break down and buy ;)
