adapting

Kara is 16 days old - she's definitely not as chill or easy as Nick so far. The first week seemed easy. The second week it got a little more complicated. It's going ok! I feel like the second time around, I get out much more- like we've taken Nick to the pool, I've been able to do some errands, I haven't been homebound - yet.  Still struggling a bit with the feeding  - I 'm striving for a 3 hour schedule (some people think schedules are nuts, but this is how Nick slept through the night by 10 weeks).  I get stressed out if I have to feed her before 3 hours because she won't calm down. And trying to stay awake while feeding her at night and keeping her awake too - is tough! I need to have easy breakfasts planned out and ready for the morning. What do your kids eat?  Kara definitely cries more than Nick did in between so it has been a bit of a challenge.    She's feisty! How do moms of 2 fit it all in?

I've managed to get in about 30 min/day of some form of exercise (lifting or running) since Monday. Today I napped instead.  I've ran 3 times - 2 miles, 3 miles and then 31 minutes outside which ended up being only 2.7 miles. I'm going to work on getting my speed back, but for now I just want to get back in shape.  I still want to do a triathlon in the spring.  I dropped the initial 17 lbs and this time I gained 23, so I have that extra weight to lose + another 10 lbs to pre-kids weight. Lots to work on!! I've been eating quick/non prepared things and my hunger has increased since the first week for sure!

  2. She looks like she getting big already! Where does the time go??

I don't want to make you mad, but I'm not a believer of scheduling feedings. I fed Ethan when he wanted to nurse and really sometimes that was about every hour some days esp when my milk supply was so low the first couple of months. Try not to stress about it and just go with your gut feeling what you should do in those circumstances :-)

  3. I haven't ever heard of Dense bars. Might have to try them. I did used to do cereal, but b/c of timesake, I started eating protein bars. And now, even if I do have the time to sit down and eat cereal, I still tend to go for a protein bar. Guess out of habit! I recently bought some oatmeal, yogurt, and banana's to try and get in the habit again.

  4. Just don't try to do everything all at once. It's great you're working out but be sure you rest too. And try not to be overwhelmed when you don't get everything in. Sounds like you're doing great if you've been getting out and getting workouts in.

We used to feed my older son dry cereal until we thought he could eat cereal like a normal person (aka with milk). Otherwise, bagels or toast is easy. Bananas or muffins. Any other fruit is pretty simple.

  5. Brooke was a really difficult baby, but easy to schedule. She had colic and cried all the time she was awake - but ate every 3 hours (no demand feeding) and was easily sleep trained starting at 3 months. I'm praying number two will be more laid back than she was because I dont know how to handle a baby that cries all the time when you have a bossy toddler in addition ... but I also am hoping baby number two will be easy to schedule too.

I dont know how to do it with two! I'm hoping you figure it out over the next three months so I can borrow your lessons learned ;)

  7. Sounds like a lot of adjustments going on. I don't know how Moms of ONE manage so I bow down to you! I hope things continue to go well... good luck with the feeding schedule.

  8. 2 is hard when they are on different schedules. The first few months are going to be challenging until you get Kara on a schedule closer to Nick's. You're workouts may suffer a bit but once they are on the same page, you'll be sleeping better and you'll be able to get more organized. For now, just get in what you can when you can. You're doing great!
