Running, blog playdate & crazyness

Forgive my break from the blog world, my life has been a bit crazy w/ the house on the market and trying to keep everything in order.  I don't have much to report running/training wise besides a feeling of BLAH.  I'm trying to get some motivation back on the table and we'll see where that goes. In order to help me with that, I signed up for a 10k this weekend and have the Oddyssey Half Marathon in 2 weeks. There's beer at the finish and I will be running it for fun because I do better that way. I'm looking forward to meeting runblondie26 too!

In overall life, I feel very happy and thankful that I'm able to stay home with the kiddos and teach them. This time is precious and I love it. I will be teaching an online course for my school this summer which I'm looking forward to. I was doing the training for it and most of the day concerned that I was going to miss my little Kara crawling. It was nice to go back to the working world - for a day - but I couldn't do it. Amazing how a baby can change everything.

Last week I met Rebecca for the first time! She sees the husband of my friend as a chiropractor for her hip - husband and wife chiropractors.  My hamstring is doing pretty well, it's moving up my leg and switching spots. The Graston seems to be working. Anyway, we had a playdate with our kids and it was really fun to meet her and her girls are so cute!  Nick had fun playing with Elena and we had a nice time chatting.

Other than that I just need to get my A#% on the bike for the 26 miles in the tri that is in just over a month.  I can't motivate!! I WILL go for a bike ride this weekend. It's just a matter of budgeting the time for me (and I'd rather be running, swimming, lifting, fill in the blank).

I started thinking about marathon training plans and trying to determine my best route and thinking about hiring a coach.

  1. It's good that you were able to do the training day to help you see that you enjoy being a full time mum. I HATE leaving Murray at nursery and am so glad he started crawling at home before nursery!

I did a big reply to your other post about working but somehow deleted it - but I really related to the person who replied about the doing all the baby stuff and house stuff and going to work how it may send her over the edge!!!! LOL - it is really HARD!

I think I any have to take up cycling in order to get my outdoor fix to replace running but the expense of getting a bike brings me out in hives!

Hope Kara crawls soon. It seems like Murray was up on his knees ready to go for about a month and then - whoosh!

  2. What a great opportunity. The job sounds like it's the best of both worlds. What will you be teaching?

So I thoroughly expect to run craptastically next week. It's hard for me since I'm always shooting for that next PR, but I'm trying to make peace with it. The weather won't be right and I've been at least a minute off pace on my runs lately. Blech.

I'm super excited to be back in Philly running a race though. Costumes, beer, obstacles on the course....it's meant to be a silly race and that's why I'm doing it. I have to keep reminding myself it's not all about the clock.

I'm looking forward to meeting you too!

  3. An online course sounds like a great fit! It is hard to leave your little ones and wonder if someone else will get to see a milestone. I hate it! But Em LOVES it there!

Don't worry about the funk. They come and go! Just keep pushing through and give yourself a break once in a while.

  4. If I have children, I will do whatever I can to have the option of staying home! Glad you are making the most of it.

Good luck at your upcoming races, and hope you can find some joy on the bike!

  6. I've said it before, but I think it's true: there's no perfect choice when it comes to deciding about staying home vs. working. I know moms who do both, or some combo thereof, and there are sacrifices and joys and disappointments either way. One day, hopefully, women won't be the only ones who have to make these tough choice. Men, I know, would not suffer the kind of guilt or feelings of inadequacy that most women do about their parenting/working choices.

  7. I'm happy that you're feeling happier at home! I know it must be really hard to find the balance that works for you.
