Here and there - some random things:
My nike+ died several months ago. It was only a year and a few months old. I finally brought it to an apple store and they told me I basically had to buy a new one. There are no battery replacements (and the warranty only covers it for 1 year). Just incase you are on the market for one, you should know this!
mental/emotional
After school let out and I stopped hearing from kids and reading emails from work (I wanted to) on a daily basis, it has been easier for me to not be thinking about teaching. I think September will be hard, and I finally heard back from my district that I CANNOT sub and jobshare will NOT be an option. However, the past week or two, I am feeling good about being home and can't imagine leaving Nick for more than a couple of days a week. He does new things every day and I love seeing them and watching him grow. He'll be 5 months soon and I don't know where the time went! So, I feel good that I have taken the opportunity to take some time off and be poor for a bit. I think it is worth it.
Food
Thanks for your help yesterday - I don't feel like I am eating badly! Maybe the nursing is keeping the pounds on but I thought that was burning calories plus an active workout schedule... I don't get it! I've cut the pb out of the oatmeal in the morning (that was just an unnecessary thing and bad idea). I really cut back on cheese. I was eating it daily. I have 2 smoothies most days, one w/ veggies and banana and protein powder and one with fruit and hemp powder. It is fun making the raw food, but also still counts as dessert to me!
BABY FOOD
Moms - what foods do you make yourself for the baby and what do you buy pre made?
Alison gave me a great tip to just mash the banana - no food processor, and Angela - same w/ avocado, what else are some easy foods to make? So far, Nick has had apples, oats, rice, pears, bananas and prunes. I think I am going to go through all the fruits then try all the veggies. I wanted to wait till he was 6 months, but since he is constipated often, the pediatrician said to start the solids. So far it hasn't helped him, but he is into the solids!
Yesterday I did some yoga on demand w/ some guy - thighs and butt or something. I feel THAT today!! :)

Those are lucky ladies! It sounds like you're in a good space with everything. :o)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're feeling better about the staying at home. I'm sure Nick is happy with that decision.
ReplyDeleteCongrast to the winners!
ReplyDeleteThat is so crappy about the Nike+. What a bunch of crap!
I think you are really going to enjoy being home with Nick!
on baby food, I made big batches of stuff from scratch for #1, but this time around, I'm way more laid back/lazy. I just do things in small portions as part of our regular meal prep. Often, I just give him a chunk of frozen banana, fresh avocado, or steamed sweet potato inside one of those Munchkin mesh teething feeders. He LOVES to feed himself!
ReplyDeleteAs far as baby food goes, I've made my own rice cereal, bananas, avocados, papaya, pear, green beans, peas, sweet potatoes. I've given her poi and yogurt which are straight out of a container so that's easy too.
ReplyDeleteI buy some of the combination foods out of the jars too.
I don't know what is wrong with employers - you would think that job sharing would be a great idea for you and someone else in a similar situation (my SIL did with a colleague as they both managed to have two babies each within 3 months of each other, so by the time one was ready to come back from maternity leave, the other was ready to go on it). I mean I can see why it might be disruptive to the kids, but you're so passionate about your job that I don't think they would be losing out. Sorry to hear the admins are such bureaucratic morons.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a baby, but the I remember Mama Simmons blogging about the mesh food thing, the same day I skyped with a friend of mine and she showed me her daughter's - seems like a cool way to let them do their own foodie thing :)
glad you are feeling better about being home :) watching my friend who is home now with her baby she just loves it. plus once he gets to around 8/9 months (thats who old my friends baby is) they are SOOOO fun and learning so much. i am sure you will be so happy to be home with him :)
ReplyDeleteI have read that sometimes nursing mothers take longer to lose the extra weight (even though La Leche League would have someone black balled for saying that)because your body does require the extra calories. It's kinda like when you're training for a marathon and everyone believe they will lose weight in the course of training, but often times, the opposite is true.
ReplyDeleteRight now, your body needs the extra fuel, and again, you're healthy, strong and active and those should be the most important things.
I definitely made more bulk stuff with ryan..all the fruits and veggies. With brayden it was more on demand the food we were eating, just before spices were added and blended well.
ReplyDeleteI made them both homemade combo meals (spaghetti, lasagna, rice/veggies, chicken/veggies etc.) With Brayden I did buy more canned food to help substitute just because my time to prepare the food was more limited.
When i made stuff, i made it in batches then put it in ice cube trays and froze it. When it was frozen, i'd pop them into a freezer bag for storing in the freezer....then make more. Then, at mealtime, i'd pop out a cube of food (pears, bananas, etc.), let it thaw, and there's dinner!
ReplyDeleteMy friend has a Suunto watch/thing that goes on her shoe and she loves it - it does really neat things!
I'm glad your feeling better about being home! :) It will be much more fun when hes a little older and into everything! He will keep you busy i bet! :) :)
ReplyDeleteBummer that the district is being uncooperative, but I'm glad you're feeling better about everything!
ReplyDeleteawww those lucky winners! they better know how good they've got it!!
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad that they said definitely not on the job share. Usually I thought that was a principal option, but maybe not. Trust me, it will feel just like an extended summer break.
ReplyDeleteI was sure I was gonna win this one! Eh, congrats to the winners!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you're feeling a bit better about your choice of staying home. My mom stayed home with all three of my siblings and I am eternally greatful. I know it made a differeance to me, and today she is enjoying her independence that much more!
Have fun with the baby food, I love the updates!
Woo hoo!!! Yay!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the sub/job share thing. I'm sure that's a disappointment :-( But, I'm glad you are feeling better about the decision. It is a HARD transition but, I'll tell you, I am so happy that I stay home.
Thanks for the contest!!!!
Okay, I might be a terrible mother but other than avocados and bananas which I can mash with a fork, Zach gets mostly gerber stuff. I'm not good about making our own meals so it seems fitting I am giving him gerber food. I wish I could make it from scratch like others but it just overwhelms me.
