The product
The Camelback Groove is a 20 oz dishwasher safe plastic water bottle with the filter built in to the straw. This means that you can drink water anywhere. Fill it up at a water fountain and it filters out the chlorine, bad taste and odor. It does not purify water. The filter lasts approximately 3 months. Each replacement filter is $5. It features a big bite valve for sipping water, is 100% BPA free and has a lifetime guarantee. The bottle comes in 4 colors (grey, pink, blue and light green) and the retail price is $25.
My experience
The bottle comes with instructions to insert the filter. I am a visual person (I don't read directions) and it was very easy to get it ready to use. Basically, you put the filter under the faucet for 15 seconds and stick it into its place on the bottle.
The bottle has a soft plastic mouthpiece from which you sip the water. Over the first few days, I decided I wasn't in love with the soft mouthpiece and took it off for a day or two just sipping through the small mouthpiece (which worked fine), but then I ended up getting used to the bite valve piece. I think that I like more water to come out when I sip. Post run, I really wanted to chug water, and in this case, I really couldn't get it fast enough. Take note that it isn't for chugging - more for sipping!
When you refill it, I have been holding the lid upside down - otherwise some water leaks out of the bottom of the filter piece.
I have been bringing this around everywhere with me - I started using the bottle last Monday and have definitely increased my water intake. It has a nice little plastic loop which makes it easy to grab and to attach to my bag too. I love it and think it would make a great gift for any athlete.

I would give up some bottles, not sure exactly how many. Every once in a while I will be out and realize that I forgot my bottle. I would be able to keep one in my car as an emergency bottle and keep 1 in the house. I also really want, someday, to get the pack for hiking: http://www.camelbak.com/Sports-Recreation/Packs/2011-Aventura.aspx... And I liked the page on FB. I really want one of these bottles. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and yes I would fill up at the gym and at the airport. I dislike airport water, but I hate the price of bottle watered there so I would definitely use this to drink at the airport.
