3 miles down w/ little guy

What a nice day outside!! A little cold but nice! I managed to run 2.2 miles on the treadmill at an easy pace and went outside to do the 0.8 to make 3 miles! I wanted to see what my natural pace might be without using the treadmill to gauge it. I ran at about 10:40-11 min mile pace both inside and outside. I doubled bra-ed it - these mamas are huge! We put little Nick in his bouncer to see if he'd fall asleep/stay asleep with the treadmill noise and he did! I could run forever if I can look over and see him laying there the whole time!
I feel GREAT. I just looked at myself and realized I look exhausted but I don't feel exhausted.
I am wondering what I need to be careful of (besides injury) by starting to run. Obviously I'm taking it easy, but I'm not exactly sure what damage I could do by running too quickly. My body feels fine and I'm just listening to it like my doctor (I may profess my love to him soon) said.

I've been eating pretty much whatever I can grab so far. I'm about 5 pounds from my starting weight so in 9 days I dropped give or take 16 pounds. Have yet to take a picture of my jelly like tummy, I plan to get it back in shape - crunches and ab work - I think that I can start doing that!

I've been blogging more on my baby blog because the little peanut has taken over as my new passion. Soon I'll balance everything out but for now he is much more exciting and fun than running! Little runner legs:
If anyone is blog talented, I can't figure out why I have tons more options when I post (fonts, pictures come up as pictures not code, etc) on this blog but not on my baby blog. Help me out if ya know!

And I just have to add bc I can't vent too much on my other blog that I am so tired of people visiting. I just want time to spend with our new family before I have a breakdown when Bill goes back to work for good on Tuesday!

  1. Look at that hair! He's so cute.

Great job getting back to the running...and your pre pregnancy weight. That's great.

  3. Glad to hear you are running and all is going well. Since you were running pretty much through your entire pregnancy, I don't think there is anything wrong with going out now, especially if you feel good!

In regards to your question about more options on this blog than your baby blog, here is my thought. I noticed when I was playing around with the different layouts that some layouts had more options. Could that possibly be the case here? I noticed that both of your blogs are differnt layouts. Just my two cents. I hope it helps. LOL.

  4. I can just see you doing some crazy 20 miler because he only sleeps when the treadmill is running...other people have to drive babies around, you have to run

  5. Nicholas is so cute! Kids are definitely more exciting to write about than running.

  6. Shoo used to nap to the sound of treadmill too. It was a great thing.

I think the only worry (and I don't know if it would be related to speed or just overall exertion) is that your bleeding could increase. Also, certain hormones in pregnancy make things a little looser and stretchier, so there can be some issues with your uterus not being fully back to normal size and place (I used to know more about the science of this, but my youngest is three now, so it's been a while since I had to think about it.) I think if you just take it easy and run comfortably, rather than really pushing yourself for a week or so, you'll be fine.

  7. He's such a cutie! And I love the little legs. I was just looking at pictures of Zach when he was first born and couldn't get over how skinny his legs were when he was born because now they are chubby!

I am still double bra-ing it. I keep waiting for that to come to an end.

  8. I know what you mean regarding too many visitors. Luckily, that will end soon enough. :)
Glad you feel good running. Your body will tell you when you need to back off, so just listen. :)

  10. Cute little guy, ease back into the running slowly, at least for another few weeks.

  11. Running post partum depends on the type of birth you had...if you don't have any pain than you might be fine, but my understanding is that it take 4-6 weeks for your uterus and vaginal muscles to return to their pre-pregnancy state. Running prior to this period could put un-necessary strain on these muscles further weakening them and resulting in urinary incontinence and other issues. There are likely internal tears not apparent to you that are healing as well. I did find this interesting article: http://www.exerciseismedicine.org/pdfs/c76postpartum.pdf. Check it out. But, I would go with pain as a measure. Make sure you aren't masking pain with meds, too!

  12. Baby feet are almost too much for me to handle. They are just so CUTE!

Way to get out there and start running. Take it easy and listen to your body.

  14. I love sleeping babies- they are just so precious!

Wow, great job on the running (and especially on the little one sleeping through the t-mill sound). I would probably be paranoid and take it easy, but if you feel good, and you've got your doc's okay, you're probably fine.

And great job on losing so much weight already! We'll have to start calling you Heidi Klum from now on, LOL.

Love the little runner legs- too cute! And sorry about all the visitors- that would drive me crazy, too. Good luck.

  16. I love the pictures, he is so cute! i would say just keep listening to your body about the running. Everybody is different - I feel like some ppl have to wait longer after having a kid and some don't!!

  18. Super congratulations! I'm so glad you're enjoying these early days - it's fun to get lost in all that love. I know what you mean about visitors; on the advice of veteran moms, we decided to keep the first few days to ourselves and invited close friends to meet Claire when she was four days old. It sounds like hogging the baby but considering I was a new mom, it felt good to gain a few days of comfort before inviting people over. Don't feel bad to ask people if they can come visit another day, either. This is your time to enjoy. I took a look at your baby blog and HE IS ADORABLE! Awww.

  19. OMG! He DOES have runner legs!

I have heard the same comment from new mothers about visitors. They mean well, but I don't know how they can not know you might want some time alone.

I'm so glad you are feeling so good. I knew you would be. All that running during pregnancy kept you strong. Great job!
