Outside Running

These feet can't wait to run!

Wow - the last 2 days have been great! I can't wait for full blown spring! Yesterday was high 50s, today was mid/high 60s! We took our little guy to the loop we've been doing, I ran it and Bill walked him in the stroller. I felt like I was going pretty fast, but then, not really. My nike+ seems to be lacking battery power - has anyone replaced this? I just used my ipod and I know the length of the loop, and I got 4 miles/35:13/8:49 - I'm not sure how accurate that was and I'm not sure I felt that fast. But, for now, I'll take it!

Today, my inner thighs are a good sore and upper back could use a nice massage. My knees hurt a little bit but didn't hurt at all during either run.

What is bad is that I am kind of ignoring my training plan, so I need to at least plan the rest of the long runs to make sure I am getting in the mileage. I am starting to get nervous!
There are 6 weeks to go. What do you think of 13 - 16- 18/20 - 14- 8 ? It sounds manageable to me besides that I don't know about the 18/20 without a partner but I'm sure I'll get it done somehow.

What is good is that I was inspired by the healthy A.B. and made a yummy smoothie today with pineapple, blackberries, blueberries, banana, protein powder and milk. Yummy! Lots of fruit and protein.
My breakfasts have all been oatmeal with PB, flaxseed ground and wheatgerm. Only problem starting the day with the PB is eating too much of it. It's almost gone (at least the good flavors) so that shouldn't be a problem until they have a 50% and free shipping thing going on again (Naturally Nutty).

I'm looking up recipes to make something with sweet potatoes tonight. We'll see how far I get. But I want to up the veggies and fruits! If you have a sweet potato recipe send it along!

Do you have an Iphone? I have the ipod touch but it sits in a basket at home. I got it at work for using technology to try out. I don't use it in the classroom at all. But, here are some great apps for the iPhone that you could check out.

Hopefully the weather sticks around!! : ) One more easy run planned for tomorrow, outside let's hope!

  1. the fav sweet potato around here is to slice it up... then spray with cooking spray and dust with paprika.. they cook up either like fries or chips depending on how thin you do it.

I use the toaster oven on like 450 for about 25 minutes I think...been a little while.

The spinach in the smoothie, swear you can't taste it! I'm going to post some recipes tomorrow...but right now I've largely just been tossing in what I had around!

  2. I have an awesome sweet potato recipe with black bean and brown rice. If you want it, let me know and I'll email it to you. I love it.

Glad you got out there today. I have been outside since 9am this morning. I just got home. It was beautiful!

I think your training plan sounds perfect. You can totally do that.

  3. You can roast the sweet potatoes. Take two peeled sweet potatoes, cut them in 1 inch pieces and put them on a baking sheet. Add one red onion cut into quarters, and one whole head of garlic (break them into separate pieces, but no need to take off the skin). Then toss with some olive oil (about 1 tbsp) and some salt and pepper. Put it in the oven at 450 degrees for 20 minutes.

  4. A little late for tonight, but I had this about a month ago and loved it: http://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipes/10782?section=
Do you get that magazine? My mom got it for me for Christmas and I think I've tried 4-5 recipes from each month and I've only found one that I don't like. Check it out!

  5. I love sweet potatos but usually just bake them. I'm going to try what RuntoFinish suggested, though. Sounds great.

We're making green smoothies today. Everyone is on a smoothie kick!

    Isn't this weather great!

  8. I also love the fries thing with sweet potatoes. We coat with olive oil and then sprinkle with cummin and bake at 400 degrees for 35 minutes. Yummy.

And jealous of your great weather. We are in the midst of a lot of rain.

  9. mmmm. sweet potatoes! I am glad you guys are getting some nice weather. We are actually under a Blizzard Watch, as of right now... should be coming between Monday and Wednesday with Blizzard like conditions we had in December that gave us a day off of schooL!

  11. I'm late on the sweet potato front, but I make them pretty regularly the same way Amanda does - I slice them up, sprinkle with paprika, sea salt, and rosemary, and bake them in the oven.

The other day, though, I diced one pretty small, put it in the microwave for a couple minutes, and then cooked it stovetop with a few handfuls of spinach, sea salt, and cooking spray. So good!

Want to try to run one day this week? I'm on spring break!
