I'm craving BAAAAAddd stuff - why?

Oh my gosh - the last few days I have been craving bad cookies, eating bread with butter and cheese (my pregnancy cravings!) and wanted to bake like mad (I baked some somewhat normal cookies last night but they weren't worth it).  I have to say that hemp fudge and oatmeal "cookies" aren't really doing it for me this week!  I've been as good as possible and made a smoothie when I was starving at 5pm today, but by 7/8 pm I just want a big warm chocolate chip cookie.  What gives?

This week I'm also kind of feeling the burn. I'm tired. My body is tired. I've been getting up at 4:30 so that I can get in an extra little session of weights or abs before swimming. Monday was arms, and the swim kicked me in the butt.  With the time change, it was a small group, and a faster guy swam with me and had no mercy. I was DYING.  Tuesday was the hill workout. Again, I got my a** kicked.  I actually got frustrated and wondered why I was there. What a fast group!  Today was legs and swimming - I felt sluggish this morning then had a strong dualie run with the kids in the nice weather.
I was thinking the dualie was not worth it, but with this weather I think I am going to love it.  I was pleased to be running at a decent pace with them today!
10:11/9:36/9:13 were my mile splits for 3 miles and average pace of 9:45.

Tomorrow I might run easy instead of tempo to listen to my tired body!  I don't know what's going on - maybe I need to check my nutrition and make sure I'm eating the right things and enough of them.

What causes you to have cravings? What do you crave?

  1. You're really working it girl. With the added stress your body is screaming for carbs and other sugary goodness. I'm sure it'll settle down during your taper.

Or you could be pregnant :P

  5. I am pregnant right now and I can identify with everything you are saying! I do spool good and then I go into "baking mode" or M&M mode. I don't think I can totally blame it on being pregnant though, I get like this when I haven't been sleeping as much as I should or if my body is tired from too much exercise. Maybe toning it down in that area and/or trying to catch a few more zzzzz's will help. With two little ones I bet that is way easier said than done though"

  7. Of course you're hungry - you're up at 4.30am for goodness sake! LOL! No wonder you're tired too. Remember rest / slower recovery runs are a really important part of fitness, not a cop out - you want to benefit from all the hard work you're doing!
Hmm also - PMT? - I had mega munchies during my first PMT post Murray - there wasn't enough food in the world!

  9. I'd agree with some of the others who suggest it could be the increased stress on your body (from the time change, getting up early and working out a lot). When I get mad cravings that won't go away, I usually try to just go ahead and have a small amount of what I'm craving. I eat just until I'm satisfied - and then the craving usually goes away.
If I were you, I'd get 1 chocolate chip cookie from a bakery (that way you don't have a whole batch at home) and be done with it.

  10. I crave all the stuff you mention. And I find myself eating it out of habit/boredom more than anything else.
But I'm reformed on back on track now. At least for this week so far I am. ; )
I'm tired just reading about your workouts!

  12. When I am over tired I tend to crave bad food especially sugar...you are working your body really hard! I try to steer clear of it but sometimes there is just no substitute...better to eat one cookie than a ton of ones that don't cut it!

  13. Like others said, I think that when you are tired your body craves junk food for instant energy.

Hope you are enjoying this beautiful day. I think that we are heading to a park tomorrow since it will be so warm. We don't have anything planned yet so if you want to meet up, let me know. We are totally flexible since Elena doesn't nap and Adelaide sleeps on the go.

  14. I've seen your workouts, and they need to be fueled! I think we go through cycles of wanting healthy and unhealthy foods... I'm sure healthy will win out soon!

  16. I crave things when my body is just 100% wore down - sounds like the same thing is happening to you. Take it easy a couple days and I'm sure you'll be back to normal in no time! You aren't alone... if that makes it any better! :)
