Feeling like a big load

I've been feeling like a load lately. I felt like my weight was starting to go down, but now it is just stuck again. It isn't the number that I focus on, but how I feel. I don't feel good about my body right now. My stomach just looks gross to me, still. I feel like I am not overeating, just eating when I am hungry and eating good things! (of course the occasional splurge) - but I can't seem to lose weight, despite running faster, swimming, and Jillian Shred workouts 3 times a week. I've read many moms out there go below their pre-pregnancy weight around 4-5 months, but I'm still stuck here! Should I eat less? Count calories? Switch up my workouts? What gives?

In the first week of marathon training for a possible Steamtown Marathon, it went pretty well. I had to get up at 5 yesterday to run 12 on the treadmill. Usually Nick is up around 6:30 so I figured I could get most of it done before he woke up. He was up at 5:30! I let him play/talk till he started to fuss around 6, and went to get him, then finished running after he was fed and happy. The morning workouts - I love getting it out of the way. For the long runs, they are definitely going to have to be done in the morning to be done! I also woke up early a couple of times this past week to be able to run w/o interruption and it worked well!

12 miles/1::50:36/9:13 minute mile - ehh. It felt ok, kind of dragging. My knees have been bothersome as of late.

Favorite comment of the week by Jess after my swimming fiasco:
So, did you go home commando?
Answer: no, I always have a change of clothes in my swim bag :)

The giveaway ends tonight @ midnight, don't forget to enter!

  1. I'm sorry you feel ugh about your body. But just remember it needs time. My body needed 12 months to get back to its normal looking shape. your doing everything you can now let your body do what it needs to. Good luck I know it can be frustrating

  2. You are way closer to your goal weight than I am :-P It'll eventually come off! You can always keep a food diary for a few days to see how many calories you are consuming. You could be eating more than you think.
I have some Glucosamine that would help your knees. If you are interested I can email you the info.

  3. Again if you;re still nursing I wouldn't cut your calories. I know what it feels like to not be happy with how your body feels. I'm also in that state and have been trying different things. For me, I know it's my weekends that are sabotaging my progress. For you I think you just need time! Maybe some people are back in 4 months. Some pople never get back...it's different for everyone. You are so fit and active that I wouldn't worry just now.

  4. Sorry you aren't feeling the best about how you look. However, to me it sounds like you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself. You are eating well and exercising. Try to not think so hard about dropping the weight. Sometimes the heat, or stress, or just life can weigh us down a bit. You are doing great, just give yourself a little more time (easier said than done, I know. Hang in there.

  5. Based on some photos you put up recently, you look great and not like anything you described in your latest post.

BUT, even though I haven't had a baby (yet), I still understand when you're body doesn't feel right and you just want it to get there already! It will and since you're taking good care of yourself and of Nick, you're so busy you might not even notice it's happening! :)

  7. Don't be so hard on yourself. Losing baby weight takes a long time (I hear), and while some women may return to pre-pregnancy weight in 4-5 months, many take much longer.

You should feel good that you're so healthy and active. The shape and pre-preggo weight will follow soon.

  8. Some people hang on to a few pounds while they are nursing. Don't sweat it. You'll get back to "normal" soon enough. Cutting calories might hinder your milk production.

  9. No real words of wisdom, other than keep up the good work. You are eating healthy, staying active and working hard. It will pay off, I am sure. Just keep plugging away, we all go through these patches!

  10. I'm still trying to lose the last few lbs to goal weight and Nathan is nearly 8 months. I've been keeping a food diary and that really helps. I know how frustrating this is, but just focus on being healthy and eating the best food possible and it will come off.

  11. Losing baby weight is different for everyone. Try not to stress out about it too much, but I am sure it's hard. I will tell you 2 things. 1) Sometimes your body hoards fat while you are BFing, and you won't lose it until you stop. 2) When I am training for a race and working out a ton, I never lose weight, just maintain. When you exercise so much, your body also hoards the fat you have, because you are burning so many calories. Give yourself a break. You are doing so much!

  14. Sorry you're not feeling great about yourself. I know how that feels. It sounds like you're doing everything right. But have you thought about making sure you're eating enough if you're working out so much?

  15. I hope you start to feel better about this--I can't imagine how hard it must be to lose baby weight! I think you're doing all the right things--hopefully you will start to see the results of your efforts soon.

  16. i know exactly how you are feeling. Overall I'm eating well, but eating just slightly more than I should..um hello now working out.. so while my weight is staying the same, i don't feel the same. I am trying to stay very positive though and stay nice things about my body each day, it sure helps get me back on track much faster

  18. I'd guess that you are just holding onto a little extra weight until you are done breast feeding. And I think the average is like 2 years to get back to you pre-pregnancy weight so you are doing great. Just keep eating healthy, your body will work it out when the time is right.

  19. I wouldn't worry too much. I know that knowing your weight can be valuable but you might want to skip weighing yourself for awhile. You're active and breastfeeding and eating well. Try not to be too anxious about the last few pounds.

Good job on the morning runs! Lately I've been dragging mine into the afternoon.

  20. Don't feel bad, I have never been pregnant and I can't get the last 5 lbs. off. I lost the first 6 pounds relatively easily and now I'm stuck. Yuck! Urgh!

  21. Hi - the biggest question is how do you FEEL? If you feel healthy and strong and rested, then the physical manifestion of that will come. Your other friends are right - it can take up to 12 months, sometimes more. Medically it takes 18-24 (closer to 24) for your body to completely recover and return to original state after pregnancy (meaning balance of endocrine system, hormones, etc.), and that assumes proper eating/exercise.

If you feel strong, then it's on its way to returning to "you."

    Take care! H.
